  Ofqual confirmed on 30th September that in fairness to History GCSE and A Level students:
  
  1. Grade boundaries will be set by exam boards at a midpoint between 2021 and 2019 to ensure that more students get higher grades in 2021 compared to pre-pandemic levels.
  
  2. There will be optional topics and content in GCSE history
  
  (the provision of advance information on the focus of the content of exams, in the majority of subjects at GCSE, AS and A level therefore does not apply in history)

  The recent Department for Education publication suggests a different strategy recommending that teachers: ‘prioritise teaching missed content that will allow pupils to make sense of later work in the curriculum. This includes key knowledge, skills, vocabulary, concepts, and the links between concepts’.
